Simple Shutdown Timer is a utility program that can shut down or restart a Windows PC. As it's name suggests, this particular program is simple and straightforward. The program achieves one of two goals with each use. A user can either restart their computer or shut it down after the timer expires. While the program might seem useless at first, individuals can use the program for various purposes. Controlling a computer through the time is quite easy and doesn't require too much effort.

What Simple Shutdown Timer Offers To Users

When a user launches the program, they'll see nothing more than a timer and three options. The timer consists of text boxes for Hours, Minutes, and Seconds. On the other hand, Shutdown, Restart, and Forced are the three options. Users must enter in a specific amount of time and then choose Shutdown or Restart. A Forced checkbox is available to ensure the program ignores other programs preventing the shutdown.

For better or worse, that's all this particular program does. File and Help dropdown menus are available, but they don't add much to the program. Timers can be aborted before they count down and shut off the system. Otherwise, the turn off timer is a singular, one dimensional utility with a very specific purpose. Its true charm lies in what users can do with the program to satisfy their own needs.

For instance, a user might use the Simple Shutdown Timer as a security measure. If they're leaving the computer, they can set a timer to shut off the system. This helps prevent prying eyes, if the user doesn't return for quite some time. Instead, the restart timer could be used as a maintenance tool to give the PC's hardware a break. Plenty of other clever uses are available for Simple Shutdown Timer.

Scheduled shutdowns and resets already exist as a feature in Windows 10, though. For that reason, this program might be redundant for some users. It doesn't help that Simple Shutdown Timer sometimes fails to restart or shut down the computer. Users might opt for the native scheduler to restart the computer to guarantee proper functionality. Plus, not everyone wants to download such a one dimensional program.

Should You Download Simple Shutdown Timer?

In some cases, Simple Shutdown Timer might work better than the native scheduler in Windows. The program works as intended more often than not, but it's not the perfect solution. Users will find themselves frustrated when the shutdown feature fails to engage. For that reason, Simple Shutdown Timer is recommended, but with a few caveats.
